To say I’m tortured is an understatement. I do not know if I can handle all of this. I never experienced what I had when I first touched Rachel, and my lips still burn from our kiss. Her body, her skin… I want to touch her as I had in the dream, but I doubt that will ever happen.

She is fighting the mating bond.

Which should not be possible.

She does not love me.

Despite the pain she is causing me—the pain I know she is causing herself too—I still love her. She is fierce. She’s been fighting for so very long that she doesn’t know anything else. How can she? Her life has been one fight after another. She has been trying to tackle the weight of the world’s problems for so long that when she has the chance to stop and consider what she wants out of life, she feels lost.

She says she doesn’t want a life with me. Is that because she is trying to punish herself for what she perceives as failures, or is it because she truly does not wish to fulfill the mating bond?

Is she afraid to love because of having lost her parents? I do think that is the case, but what if I am wrong? What if I perceive her incorrectly? Shouldn’t she know best what she wants?

Is it possible she’s afraid to want to be with me so she is clinging to what is comfortable? The last thing I want is to force her to be with me. She’ll only resent me and hate me, and I could not handle that.

She wishes to return to Earth. With every second, we’re leaving Earth farther behind, but Earth remains far closer than Ranah.

If we are going to turn around, we should do so now.

She hates me because she's unable to overlook my kidnapping her. I suppose I should not be surprised. The other women have mates who had not kidnapped them, so it was easier for them to accept that their fates were tied to a man they viewed as an alien.

Those females have forgiven me because they have accepted their love, but it is that much harder for Rachel because I am the one to have kidnapped her as well as the one she is to mate with.

I have been pacing in my room since I have left Rachel’s room. Now, I leave and seek out Grith. He has mated with the Earthling Rika.

Grith is in his room, as is Rika. She runs a hand down her hair and smirks at me before kissing Grith with tongue and then moving past me to leave the room. Neither of the two has said a word, but I suspect they have been communicating anyhow.

“What is troubling you?” Grith asks as soon as the door closes behind Rika.

I swallow hard. "How long did it take for Rika to accept that you and she are mates?"

“Not long.” Grith shrugged. “When you brought her on board, when our gazes met, I knew.
